Slicked Back Bun Essentials
Sharing my favorite products to achieve a slicked back bun. The perfect chic hairstyle for any occasion!
Slicked back hairstyles have been trending lately, and for good reason! It has quickly become my go-to hairstyle, since it keeps my hair out of my face and still looks cute! Whether you want to dress it up for a special occasion or keep it casual, the slicked back bun is incredibly versatile and ideal for those days in-between hair washes.
To achieve the perfect slicked back bun, you’ll need a few key products. Here are my top recommendations.
- Styling Cream – Dae Cactus Fruit 3-in-1 Styling Cream: You will need a good hair gel or cream to achieve the slicked back look. Before pulling your hair back into a tight ponytail, put a good amount of styling cream in your hair so it can hold the slicked back look.
- Comb – Wet Brush Pro Detangler Comb: If you prefer to maintain a part in your hair while slicking it back (completely optional), use a comb to create a perfectly straight part.
- Boar Bristle Brush – Diane Boar Bristle Brush: A boar bristle brush will help you smooth your hair and distribute the styling cream.
- Hair Elastics – Gimme Beauty Hair Ties: I tend to go for hair ties that match my hair color, so they blend in with my bun and aren’t as noticeable.
- Hair Oil – Verb Ghost Weightless Hair Oil and Kerastase Elixir Ultime Hydrating Hair Oil Serum: Finish off your slicked bun with some of your favorite hair oil. This will help keep everything in place and add a bit of shine to your hair, while also adding in benefits of a hair oil!

I have also tried this “slicked” trend with regular ponytails and braids, which is just as cute! Be careful not to do this look too often, as it can put stress on your hair. Have fun styling and enjoy rocking your sleek and chic slicked back bun!
