My Fall Capsule Wardrobe: 20 Essentials You Need
Sharing. my fall capsule wardrobe that you can mix and match to create endless outfits!
Starting off a new segment of seasonal capsule wardrobes! Capsule wardrobes allow you to limit your closet to only versatile, staple pieces that will suit any occasion. It can be easy to get swept up by fast fashion or other trendy clothing items, but I have found that it is harder to put together an outfit without going back to the basics. Once you have a solid foundation you can supplement your wardrobe with a few fun pieces, but you’ll likely be wearing staples a majority of the time. Here I am sharing my fall capsule wardrobe!
My fall capsule wardrobe consists of 20 items, including jackets, tops, bottoms and shoes. You can elevate these looks by incorporating accessories. Some of my favorite fall accessories include crossbody bags, gold jewelry, chunky scarves, and hats.
A large majority of the items shown here are from Nordstrom, Free People, and Abercrombie. However, you can find a lot of similar items that are more affordable and still high quality. Some of my favorite budget-friendly places to shop are H&M, Target, Nordstrom Rack and Amazon.
Jackets
- Jean Jacket: Jean jackets are a staple year-round. I like the slight distressing on this Levi’s ’90s Trucker Distressed Nonstretch Denim Jacket.
- Leather Jacket: This is something that I would like to invest in this year. A leather jacket can really dress up an outfit and provides a bit of an edgy look. I have had my eye on the Free People Heartbreaker Faux Leather Moto Jacket for quite some time.
- Quilted Jacket: These jackets are warmer than you might realize. This Free People Dolman Sleeve Quilted Jacket is warmer than some of my puffer coats. Forever 21 has a great dupe for this jacket, I have it in black!
- Shacket: Shackets have been all the rage lately. I love the oversized look of the Free People We The Free Ruby Jacket. I have it in both beige and pink. Shackets are a great layering item!
- Puffer Coat: Puffer coats are great for colder days. Last year I wore the Free People We The Free Duvet Bomber Jacket a ton, and I am excited to wear it again this year too! It comes in a few different colors that are perfect for fall.
Tops
- Black Tee: A black tee is great for layering in the fall. I love the fit of this Abercrombie Essential Easy Tee.
- Button-Up: You can wear a button up on its own or layer with another top to add dimension to an outfit. I love the Abercrombie Oversized Poplin Button-Up Shirt. Unfortunately, it is currently sold out. Check back often as things are restocked on a regular basis.
- White Sweater: Free People is my go-to place for sweaters. I recommend sizing down in all of their sweaters as they tend to run very oversized. The Free People Easy Street Tunic is a fan-favorite for a reason. I have had this sweater for a few years now and it is still in incredible shape. A must-have in my fall capsule wardobe.
- Cream Sweater: I have already been wearing this particular sweater non-stop. The Free People Marlie Sweater is super cozy and the neckline adds a little extra to an outfit.
- Black Sweater: Similar to both white and cream sweaters, black sweaters go with everything. You can never go wrong with black. I love the Swim Too Deep Turtleneck Sweater from Free People so much that I have it in black and burgundy!
Bottoms
- Blue Jeans: A classic for a reason. They can be dressed up, dressed down, and they are comfortable (if you find the right pair). My favorite places to shop for jeans are Madewell and Abercrombie. Always look out for sales when getting jeans from Abercrombie. One of my favorite pairs is the Curve Love Ultra High Rise 90s Straight Jean (light destroy wash), which are on clearance right now!
- Black Jeans: Similar to blue jeans, black jeans can be dressed up or down. Again, Abercrombie is one of my top picks for denim. It is worth the hype, I promise. I love the High Rise 90s Relaxed Jean (washed black), also on clearance! The fit is a little different from the straight style and has a little more room in the leg.
- Midi Skirt: Midi skirts are so versatile and can be worn year round. For colder months, I tend to opt for satin midi skirts. I recently ordered this Abercrombie Satin Midaxi Skirt and can’t wait to style it for fall!
- Leather Leggings: The best of both worlds in terms of comfort and style. Leather leggings are more structured than regular leggings, but still incredibly comfortable. They add a little extra flair to an outfit. I love the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings so much that I have 2 pairs!
- Leather Pants: Leather pants can help add texture to an outfit. The Abercrombie Leather Pants are popular for a reason. They come in a few different fits/lengths and have great stretch. I plan on purchasing a brown pair this season to mix it up.
Shoes
- White Sneakers: White sneakers go with everything. The Nike Blazer Low Platform sneakers pictured here give some added height, if that is something you are looking for. There are tons of options out there at all price points.
- Black Sneakers: My favorite black sneakers are converse, which seem to never go out of style. Again, I have the platform version. I have found that the Chuck Taylor All Star Lift Platform sneakers are actually more comfortable than the regular version, and I haven’t had any problem breaking them in. These have been a staple in my fall capsule wardrobe for years, and will continue to be for years to come!
- Tan Bootie: Booties can help dress up an outfit. I love the cutout on these Steve Madden Thrived Booties.
- Black Bootie: The reasoning here is the same as for the tan bootie, just in another color! Black booties are great because you don’t have to worry as much about them getting dirty. This pair from Marc Fisher have lasted me a few years, and they are on sale at Nordstrom Rack right now.
- Chelsea Boot: Living in the PNW, a waterproof boot is a must. I love the color of these Sam Edelman Laguna boots. They go with just about everything and are very comfortable.
