The Best Lip Balm for Accutane
I have been on Accutane twice and found the absolute best lip balm for Accutane. Say goodbye to chapped lips!
If you’ve been on Accutane, you know the chapped lip struggle. There are mornings I’ve woken up with peeling and bloody lips from forgetting to slather on lip balm before bed. Having gone through this medication twice, I’ve done extensive research on the best lip balm for Acctuane. Click on the image of each product to shop!
Back to Basics – Aquaphor & Vaseline
You can’t go wrong with Aquaphor and Vaseline. Both are affordable and highly effective. I recommend trying both to see which you prefer. Keep a large tube at home and smaller, portable versions in your bag for convenience. Personally, I favor Aquaphor and have relied on it throughout both of my Accutane courses. They also have a version with SPF, great for protecting your skin on sunny days!
Cortibalm – Hydrocortisone Cream
Cortibalm is often recommended for those on Accutane. It is a lip balm that contains Hydrocortisone and can help with severely dry lips. Since this is a steroid, it is not recommended for long-term use. I only used this for 1 week during my Accutane regimen, when my lips were particularly chapped with cuts in the corners of my mouth. My Dermatologist also gave me a sample of 1% Hydrocortisone cream and said I could use it daily for no longer than 7 days. I highly recommend discussing this with your Dermatologist before incorporating any steroid medication.

“Viral” Lip Balms
Social media often hypes up viral lip balms, like those from Summer Fridays and Rhode. While these pricier options may smell amazing, they often fall short in terms of lasting hydration. You’ll find yourself reapplying all day long, quickly running through tubes that cost $15 or more. This can add up to a significant expense over time. Now that I’ve completed my Accutane treatment, I occasionally indulge in luxury lip balms since my lips aren’t constantly chapped. However, if you’re still on Accutane, I would recommend sticking with more reliable and cost-effective options.
If you insist on using a high-end lip balm while on Accutane, my top recommendation is the Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve lip balm. Its sticky formula helps it last longer, providing more lasting hydration. Available in a variety of tints and delicious scents, I literally want to eat them. My personal favorite is the original scent (creamsicle)!
There are also some more affordable lip balms that have been popular for good reason! I have really enjoy these drugstore lip balms during my Accutane course. Although not quite as moisturizing as Aquaphor or Vaseline, they do the trick! These definitely don’t have the same yummy scents as the higher end ones. The Neutrogena Lip Sleeping Mask smells slightly of plastic, but I love the consistency and still use it!
Final Thoughts
I hope these products help if you are currently on Accutane or struggling with chapped lips in general. Remember, consistent application of a reliable lip balm is key to maintaining hydrated lips. No more chapped lips here!
